"Meet Dennis Devlin of Consumer Clarity"

Q: Tell us about Consumer Clarity.

A: Consumer Clarity is a consumer insight and marketing/branding strategy consultancy. While we do have a specialty in millennial and Gen Z consumers, we conduct research, marketing, and branding work for both B2C and B2B companies.

Q: Who is your ideal client?

A: Consumer Clarity works primarily with consumer product manufacturers (including consumer packaged goods firms) and consumer service providers. Additionally, we have strategic partnerships with many different types of marketing, communications/PR, branding and insights agencies.

Q: As a recent president of the local American Marketing Association chapter, how has that involvement with the AMA benefited you and your business?

A: In one word, exposure. My involvement in leading the Cincinnati chapter of the American Marketing Association in 2013-2014 elevated my stature in the Cincinnati marketing community and it continues to this day as I currently serve as the Chair of the CMO Roundtable, a partnership between the AMA Cincinnati chapter and the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber.

Q: What do you like most about your partnership with OfficeKey?

Consumer Clarity

A: That’s an easy one – the people. The decision to become a client of OfficeKey when I began my business about 8.5 years ago was one of the best decisions I made for the business. The quality of the people stands out most for me as what I like most about the partnership with OfficeKey.

Q: How do you spend time outside of work?

A: Over the past few years I have become an urban dweller and have centered much of my attention on my adopted hometown of Covington. So, much of my time outside of work – and outside the AMA volunteering – is spent with family and friends scoping out places in Covington, which has been experiencing a renaissance. I like to say that Covington is a city of character, full of characters.

Q: If you could have dinner with one historical figure (living or dead) who would it be and why?

A: We might question whether he is truly a “historical: figure, but my response for a dinner companion would be Tony Robbins – he has had a significant impact on how I view my life and my business. I have seen him in action, so I am certain it would be an enlightening dinner.

Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

A: My desired superpower? Mindreading. I could find probably a thousand ways being able to read minds would help me in my business.

Q: What is your favorite movie or tv show?

A: My favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption. I am not much of a fan of prison movies, but this movie has two great messages, illustrated by the following quotes:

“Remember, . .  . hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”

“I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying.”

Q: What is your favorite book?

A: My favorite book is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey – a classic. I appreciate the wisdom in learning how to become effective in our lives.

Q: What is your favorite singer or band?

A: My favorite band is U2 – I was able to see them live for the first time in 2017 in Louisville, and I am heading to Nashville in May to see them live again.

"2018 Annual OfficeKey Staff Meeting"

2018 Annual OfficeKey Staff MeetingWith five locations and 12 staff members, it is not very often that the OfficeKey team has the opportunity to gather in one place.  Therefore each January we convene for an annual meeting that allows us to get together in the same room and work on ways to continually improve our service offering.

This January our team met at Union Hall on a snowy Saturday morning.  Located in OTR, Union Hall is the startup hub for Cincinnati entrepreneurs and is the home to Cintrifuse, The Brandery, and CincyTech.  We were fortunate enough to get a tour of the facility from Cintrifuse’s Operations Manager Laura Hughes, and her assistant tour guide/dog George.  The in-depth look at their organization offered great inspiration to our staff in ways that we can rethink our own offices.

A large portion of our day was focused on the development of the Four Quadrants of Workspace that we featured in the October 2017 version of OfficeKey Monthly. Specifically, we focused on private workspaces, maker spaces, coworking, hospitality and after-hours access.  Several of the ideas discussed will hopefully be put in to practice in 2018.

The day was not all business as we enjoyed a fantastic lunch from nearby Panino.  We also got to surprise our very own Jason Campbell with a baby shower. Overall it was a successful meeting and it put us on track toward accomplishing our primary goal which is adding value to the OfficeKey service and those in our community.

"Gigsmart"

Get Gigs and Workers at Gigsmart.comIn last month’s newsletter, we featured a spotlight on The Catino Family Foundation. Ted and Becky Catino are Cincinnati natives who retired after 25 years of starting and growing a successful business. Ted and Becky have come out of retirement to start a mobile technology company called GigSmart. The Catinos founded GigSmart to meet two core community objectives:

1) GigSmart seeks to create a seamless, efficient, friendly employer/independent contractor marketplace that optimally matches employers seeking on-demand labor and individuals willing to provide it.

GigSmart is the mobile platform that gives businesses direct access to workers on demand. Businesses search by skill, check worker ratings, and staff the good ones, all using the app. GigSmart has made the process simple and efficient. When urgent, unexpected labor needs arise, GigSmart gives businesses immediate access to the workers they need.

The platform reduces the time businesses spend looking for qualified workers and even lets them mark their favorite on-demand workers for future contact.

From the moment a worker accepts a gig until the minute they complete it—GigSmart lets businesses track their location and pay them directly through the app. And at a 10% fee, businesses can do it all at the lowest fee in the industry for sourcing labor.

2) GigSmart seeks to develop an efficient system for charitable organizations to manage their volunteer needs while providing interested volunteers the ability to make themselves available.

It is the NO cost solution to managing a charity’s volunteer workforce. GigSmart gives charities the opportunity to manage their existing volunteer base, as well as giving charities instant access to a new pool of volunteers.

GigSmart gives charities instant access to a pool of workers who are available to accept immediate volunteer requests. Whether a charity is one person or ten people short for an event, the app allows them to search for volunteers within seconds so they can be working within minutes. GigSmart gives charities instant access to students who need to earn service hours, retirees looking for ways to give back to the community, and families who want to volunteer with their kids.

This app is the way for businesses to source independent workers, charities to find available volunteers, individuals to select workers for jobs and services, and for workers to make extra money, gain experience, and volunteer.

It is the most efficient way to find and manage people when urgent and unexpected labor needs arise.

"New Staff Photos"
Recently we brought in Joe Porter of Innovatory Photography to get head shots of the OfficeKey staff. We have always depended on LinkedIn as the method by which our clients can familiarize themselves with our staff and match faces with names.  We’re hoping that this new staff page will make that a little easier.

We also invited clients to join us and take advantage of having a photographer on site.  Over 40 people were able to participate.  It was so popular that we hope to do it again sometime in the near future so those who missed out will have the opportunity.

Cincinnati OfficeKey Operations Office Support in Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Office Reception

A digital presence is so important these days and a professional representation of yourself can go a long way.  That’s really the core of what we do; providing a professional image for your company.  We are not just an office space company.  Our mission is to provide our clients with an office that represents them well: whether they are meeting in person, calling on the phone or searching online.

"The Catino Family Foundation"

Support Cincinnati Non-ProfitBecky and Ted Catino are longtime Cincinnati residents and OfficeKey tenants. Since October 2011, the Catinos have managed 625 Investments, LLC and The Catino Family Foundation from the Blue Ash and Downtown Cincinnati office locations.

Ted and Becky grew up in Cincinnati. Both graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. After college, the Catinos married and started a business together. They grew that business successfully in Mason, OH for 25 years and retired after selling the company to a group of private investors.

Ted and Becky have not only been successful in business but over the years, both have been very active in the philanthropic Cincinnati community. Becky has been serving on St. Vincent de Paul’s Advisory Board for 9 years.

In retirement, the Catinos founded The Catino Family Foundation. This foundation funds many charitable causes. One of the largest focus areas for the foundation is education, funding many high school scholarships over the last 10 years.

Professionally and philanthropically, the Catinos have called Cincinnati home for 40 years. Time and time again, they have continued to invest in Cincinnati at every turn.

Just recently, both Ted and Becky decided to exit retirement and start a mobile technology company called GigSmart. GigSmart’s current headquarters are in OfficeKey’s downtown Cincinnati location.

“It took a very special company to bring both Becky and I out of retirement,” said Ted Catino. “We are so enthusiastic about this new endeavor and we really believe it is going to have a very positive impact on the Cincinnati area when we launch the product in January 2018.”

GigSmart has two core missions:

GigSmart seeks to create a seamless, efficient, friendly employer/independent contractor marketplace that optimally matches employers seeking on-demand labor and individuals willing to provide it.

GigSmart seeks to develop an efficient system for charitable organizations to manage their volunteer needs while providing interested volunteers the ability to make themselves available.

“Ted and I both know firsthand the struggles businesses and charities have when it comes to fulfilling same day labor needs,” said Becky Catino, “We have also seen a real disconnect, specifically in our philanthropic efforts, in the process between those looking for work and those needing labor. Our platform empowers both the worker and the business/charity to connect instantly through our mobile platform. It’s instant and it’s a win/win.”

"Meet Content Strategist Susan Wenner Jackson"

Susan joined OfficeKey in May of this year although she’s been very active in Cincinnati for many years creating content at such companies as dunnhumby and Ahology. She is already enjoying the quiet workspace and the day offices.

Q: Tell us about your business.

A: I am an independent content strategist and writer. Primarily, I consult with businesses on content marketing (web and social content, blog posts, email campaigns, etc.) I also help develop and execute creative marketing campaigns (print and digital). The other part of my work is running my blog, Working Moms Against Guilt, which I started with some friends in 2006. It’s still going strong!

Q: What type of clients do you like to work with?

A: My favorite clients already “get” the power of content marketing. When I don’t have to sell them on the idea (sales is definitely not one of my strengths), I can really pour my energy into creating content that attracts and connects with their ideal customers. It’s also quite nice when clients are committed to doing content right, and open to new ways of doing things.

Q: Is there a specific type of content that you particularly enjoy creating?

A: I’ve always gotten a kick out of experimenting with different media, from social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) to audio (podcasting) and video (tutorials or promotional). But really, I’m a writer at heart. I feel most in my element writing long-form pieces such as detailed blog posts or magazine-style articles.

Q: How do you spend time outside of your work?

A: A lot of my non-work time is devoted to my family. I have a husband and two children, ages 8 and 11, plus a very energetic dog (German Shepherd/Husky mix). I am also active in my church, Harmony UU in Maineville.

Q: What do you like most about working with OfficeKey?

A: Flexibility is probably the best part for me. Usually, I just need a desk, so the open wifi area at West Chester is where you’ll most often find me. But when I need to meet with clients or partners, the various rooms and locations really come in handy.

Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

A: The power to create peace.

Q: What is your favorite movie or tv show?

A: Star Trek for both: The Wrath of Khan (movie) and Deep Space 9 (TV show).

Q: What is your favorite book?

A: Asking this question to a person who loves reading and writing as much as I do is like asking who’s my favorite child. But I will say some of my top picks are To Kill a Mockingbird, The Catcher in the Rye, The Color Purple, and Moby-Dick.

You can learn more about and connect with Susan on LinkedIn.

"OfficeKey Partnership with Adopt-a-Class"

OfficeKey Adopt-a-Class VisitOfficeKey is excited to begin a partnership with Adopt-a-Class, a local non-profit mentoring program designed to facilitate connections between business groups and local elementary school students.  Once a month during the school year, several members of the OfficeKey community will visit a class and engage in activities to support that mission.

In October we took our first trip to South Avondale Elementary School to meet our class.  Upon our arrival, we were very impressed with their opening song that included each child’s name and a message about the importance of not bullying.

After introducing ourselves to the children, we played an icebreaker game that had the kids sort jelly beans into groups by color.  We then proceeded to help the kids make Halloween trick or treat bags with stickers and markers,  all along while chatting with them and getting to know them better.  Of course, before we left we had to do a “mini” trick-or-treat session so they could get some candy to fill up their new bags.

We had a great time getting to know the kids and are excited to see them again in November and December for the holidays!
