Did you know that The Cincinnati Reds Baseball Team has history as early as 1876? Their first name was the Cincinnati Red Stockings. They were a charter member of the first national baseball league.
In 1881 they played their first game under new leadership, O.P. Caylor, then the sports editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer. They played against St. Louis and won 12-3. They are the oldest baseball team in the country with the longest running history without any disruption. They played as the Cincinnati Red Stockings until 1889 when they shorted their team name the Cincinnati Reds.
Each year opening day brings thousands of people into the city to welcome another year of Red’s baseball. Many people take the day off of school, work and other commitments to attend the day-long event. The 95th annual Findlay Market Opening Day Parade starts at noon on Monday.
